The Body Speaks Louder than Words

September 5, 2013 | By: deaneparkes

During a conversation, apparently, our words amount to only 7% of how the other person perceives what we are saying, our tone of voice [38%] and body language [55%] make up the rest.

I guess it is the old story you will trust the mechanic with the most grease under his nails…

Many books are available that help with tone and body language insights to help you improve in  business and career…reading 30 minutes every day on ways to improve your business skills gets you 1/40,000 closer to mastering your craft…patience…

… half a smile for you… half for others

A smile has an edge over all other emotions…immediately firing neurons, whether we like it or not, to help us on our pursuit of happiness….

‘Mirror neurons connect us through our feelings… by observing others and listening to feelings we feel others’ …quote from Social Intelligence.

Sounds as if science has proven something we have known for some time, you walk in a room of upset people you start to feel edgy…I find each city has a unique ‘feeling’ as I am sure you experience on your travels.

A big reason health food stores have grown and thrived over the decades is traditionally the people who work in the listens carefully to assist their customers be healthier.

I know it is sometimes a challenge balancing how long to spend with a customer, experience will usually fix this however there will always be the odd customer who will capture you in their orbit and never let you go…a simple ‘I understand, how interesting…excuse me’…should work…

I have told this before I believe, a woman named her baby after a health food store staff to show her gratitude for the help the woman received so she could conceive.

The feeling inside your store mixes with the feelings your customer experiences as they walk the aisles.

The emotional tone of your store is determined by the words thoughts, actions and feelings of all staff?

Each of us is responsible for our tone and body language….

The most important part of the entire shopping experience is the feeling the customer has as they walk out the door…do they feel like coming back again.

A shopper that feels like coming back will spend 10’s of 1,000s of dollars on natural health products in their lifetime…

Through positive facial expressions without remedies, you help generate the positive happy hormone oxytocin in others… perhaps customers leaving fueled on oxytocin look forward to come back…

Over the past five-plus decades, millions of Canadians have benefited from safe and effective natural products sold at local health food […]

The Core Shopper

I believe the core shoppers of health food stores amount to about 15% of Canadians. I am unsure if this number of core shoppers is growing very fast, we just have far more choices of natural food, cosmetics, supplements and natural medicine for them to choose from. The core shoppers are fully engaged with the […]

Customers shop your store for solutions not products

This is frequently repeated statement in our business yet I still find many health food stores only displaying products without ANY solutions. People shopping in a health food store come in to either prevent or deal with a health issue. They also have family and friends who may benefit from the solutions you sell. Unless […]
